Good Weather Blend!  That's it, just right, on the patio, in sunlight. . . .

WEDNESDAY,  3.3.10

Chyenna is going through some mysterious change.  Not only is she roasting coffees from around the world -- the newest of which is JAVA ESTATE, smooth and fresh --but she's hand-dipping strawberries in chocolate too.  She's baking peanut butter cookies.  She's making her grandmother's chocolate chip cookies.  These are really just handfuls of chocolate chips with cookie in between to hold the chocolate together.  A little bit like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Goo-Goo Clusters?  You'll have to decide. . . .

SATURDAY,  2.27.10

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, will you come by?

We're now carrying cupcakes, cinnamon buns, treats by local bakery BLISS.  And we continue to offer real Dutch chocolate by Stam's--almond bark, pecan bark, milk and dark medallions, chocolate bars.

Sweeten up your life. . . !

MONDAY,  2.22.10

My, my, how time flies. . . .when the coffee's roasting, when the snow is blowing, and the New Year's turning!  Since GMISH rocked the house last December a lot has continued to shift and shake at Jessee's:

  • for the Carrboro-ite in everyone, PBR on tap
  • Jon's truly outstanding CHILI back in the bowl
  • new Art by sculptor and printmaker Mark Elliott
  • four deer in the store during the snowstorm!
  • Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon for winter
  • new: Peak Organic ESPRESSO AMBER ALE
  • Stam's Dutch chocolates on the countertop
  • and new food specials every day. . . .

Our customers keep warm by being cool, and there's always someone coming in whom you've never met before.  We're always on Facebook, and we're back on the BLOG.  As ever, it's great to see you.

What do you get when you mix Schmaltz Brewing Company's seasonal release and Klezmer Music by Carrboro's own GMISH?  A Jewbelation Celebration at Jessee's

Next Friday, December 11, the first night of Chanukah, join the hip Hebrews in town for a night full of Light.  Show begins at 6:30pm.

Eat a Lox & Bagel Plate or a Beef Brisket Sandwich.  Bring the kids.  Open a bottle of Jewbelation #13, or Schmaltz's HE'BREW Genesis Ale or Messiah Bold.  Dance.  It'll be good fun for all kinds of folks, especially you and yours.  TO LIFE!

MONDAY,  11.16.09

Our patio calls you out. . . out into sun, into the breeze, into the heart of Carrboro and the stream of familiar cars flowing past.  How many friends have you counted as you've sat by the fence facing the garden and the street?

My dentist admitted resisting the impulse to honk at me when she saw me out front the other day.  If everyone we knew honked at everyone they know whose been in and out of Jessee's we'd be making trouble for the town.  Come on.  Make some trouble!  We'll see you outside. . . .

THURSDAY,  11.12.09

Chocolate lace, that's what it looked like. . . chocolate lace that Chyenna had draped over the milky face of a latte.  The woman gazed at the delicate pattern, a smile to suit the Mona Lisa on her lips.  Leaning over to her table I whispered, "That's beautiful!"  Josephine looked too and exclaimed, "That is beautiful."  The woman whose drink it was said, "It's too beautiful to drink.  What am I going to do?"

MONDAY,   11.2.09

This news just in:  The Kind Coffee Cafe is open in the UNC Bio-Informatics Building on Mason Farm Rd!  The kiosk carries the same Kind Coffee as Jessee's, and food for people rushing productively to and fro.  During set-up over the weekend, Jessee children discovered there are 99 steps to the top of the enchanting stair well in that building, accompanied all the way by a metal and marble mural of human genomes and proteins. . . .

Meanwhile, at Jessee's:  Mandolin Orange, the progressive folk duo, will play this Friday evening to adoring fans, and the rest of us too.  Sweet, sultry music sung and played so wholesome it'll make you want to sit down.  But don't listen with your eyes closed.  These  two draw an interesting crowd.

The Kind Beer is new in our case.  Locally brewed near Charlotte, no relation to our own The Kind Coffee yet worthy of its name.  Rich, 7.3% alcohol, amber and creamy.  A great autumn ale.  Wear your jacket and drink on the patio as the sun goes down.  Ah!  The colors of Carrboro!

Cheers,
Karen

Special events at the shop: a doctor's phone bank for a special cause last Tuesday, a ladies book club cluster, an upcoming wedding on the patio in what we hope will be good weather.  We've hosted birthday parties, and work meetings, study sessions, and the chance connections of people working side by side.

Just last week I asked to join a gentleman so we could consolidate tables to work on our computers.   By the end of our conversation he was sharing books with me out of his bookbag, and I was telling him about a lecture coming up.  We had PLENTY in common.  Amazing.  And it was all because of lunch.

Come in and say "hello" to someone new.  We're all pretty keen.

For the family,
Karen

WEDNESDAY,  10.14.09

We're into our third month now, serving GOOD FOOD ALL DAY along with our fantastic coffee.  Just this morning Chyenna was roasting up a 15 kilo batch of fresh beans.  Ah, to hear the rumble.

All kinds of people come in here. . .at this moment: a musician studying Italian, two construction workers with their custom hardhats, five teenagers (one of whom is drinking a glass of milk--good girl!), an elegant woman with her laptop (professor? student? self-employed?), a reader, two talkers, and an employee who is stoked about the new PBR sign.

About the sign: a gift from a zealous salesman, it enchants almost everyone. . .but I'm waiting to be convinced.  We serve incredible beers here, microbrews like HE'BREW from Shmaltz Brewing Company, and local beer on tap from Big Boss and Foothills Brewery.  But we're a Carrboro place, and PBR casts its spell all through the community.  I think my first (and only?) taste was too long ago to recount, at the cast party for my brother's high school production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Pensance.  You come in and tell me how you like it.

We look forward to seeing you,
Karen, for the family

GREAT COFFEE!  GREAT PATIO!  GREAT TIME!
Here at Jessee’s you’ll experience something new—the quickest, best coffee to go with your Espresso Breakfast, your lunch, or even your afternoon friends enjoying wine and beer on the patio.

You’ve seen us.  We’re OPEN!!!  We have moved from our yellow curbside cart all the way inside to serve up a Kind cup.  We have breakfast to blow your mind but not blow your wallet.  We offer up a luscious lunch.  Espresso expresses itself all day long here, but afternoons you might choose to loosen up with a micro-brew or wine from a far-off land.  Our delicious food can be ordered all evening long.

Fun, fashionable, fabulous!  Come visit our bright orange roasting room.  You can see the beans transform right in front of you.  You can smell them, and then, you can taste them.  You can even take them home to brew in your own kitchen.

We all look forward to having you at Jessee’s, for a quick jolt-n-bolt, breakfast on the run, or a sit-down session with a meal, a book or a friend.  Inside or out, you’ll find us the Kind of place that will brighten your face.

Chyenna, Jon, Karen, and David Jessee
